SaltStick announces new website dedicated to Vitassium customers

SaltStick Vitassium

Today, SaltStick announced the launch of a new website dedicated to Vitassium and its customer base. The site, located at vitassium.com, will feature information relevant to people who use Vitassium to manage a health or medical need, including dysautonomia, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Vasovagal Syncope, Cystic Fibrosis, and other chronic conditions aided by higher sodium consumption. Specifically, users will be able to find in-depth scientific overviews, blog posts written by current customers that address lifestyle issues and other tips, and information about the Vitassium Club and Physicians Program. The domain saltstick.com will continue to serve as a hub for information related to athletes, as well as the original line of SaltStick Electrolytes products.

SaltStick® Vitassium® is a medical food specifically formulated to provide sodium and potassium for the clinical dietary management for patients with autonomic dysfunction including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Cystic Fibrosis (CF), and Vasovagal Syncope, when increased plasma volume has been shown to be beneficial. Since we released Vitassium in 2016, SaltStick has donated 10 percent of all sales to Dysautonomia International, to fund research, education, awareness, and patient and family support programs. Vitassium is available to customers in the U.S., Canada and UK, although we are working on expanding access in other geographies.

“Although SaltStick was originally designed to assist endurance athletes, many people in the dysautonomia community have found it helpful for easing their symptoms,” said SaltStick CEO Jonathan Toker, Ph.D. “We sought to meet this need with the creation of Vitassium, which is designed specifically a medical food for these patients. The new website is the next step in our goal to help this community, and we hope it can serve as a network of useful information for those navigating the course of managing their condition.”

For customers who use SaltStick Vitassium to help with a health or medical need, the Vitassium Club offers 20 percent off all orders of SaltStick Electrolytes, and free shipping for orders of $50 or more. Currently, the Vitassium Club is only available to U.S. residents.

How to purchase Vitassium:

For those with a U.S. address, in addition to purchase direct from our e-commerce website, Vitassium can be purchased on Amazon. Customers in Canada can purchase Vitassium here, and UK residents can purchase here.

How Vitassium helps dysautonomia patients:

One of the most common forms of dysautonomia is postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), which is estimated to impact 1 out of 100 teenagers and a total of 1-3 million Americans including adult onset patients. POTS can cause lightheadedness, fainting, tachycardia, chest pains, shortness of breath, GI upset, shaking, exercise intolerance, temperature sensitivity and more. Patients with this condition are often advised by their physicians to dramatically increase their water and salt intake, to help boost blood volume, often in addition to a multitude of prescription drugs and non-pharmacological treatments.

Many POTS patients experience extreme discomfort when taking 1g salt tablets, which can irritate the stomach lining to the point of nausea or vomiting. Additionally, many patients tire of the flavor that results from excessively salting their food every meal.

SaltStick Caps were originally engineered for the demanding nutritional needs of endurance athletes. Part of that design is the vegetable-based capsule, which provides the electrolytes sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium in a form the body can easily absorb. Time and time again, we have heard people in the POTS community tell us that SaltStick Caps are the only way they can consume the high levels of sodium they need without upsetting their stomach. Now Vitassium is available for this focused population.
